All the Details and Secrets We Spotted in the Latest Star Wars: The Last Jedi Footage. D2. 3 is upon us this weekend, and with it, a new behind- the- scenes glimpse at the next chapter in the Star Wars saga. But although the movie didn’t offer us a full trailer, what we did get was still jam- packed with little hints and clues as to what’s to come for Luke, Leia, Rey, Finn, and Poe. The opening salvo of the reel gives us a few intriguing shots of sets, locations, and characters. There’s a great big rocky set—which we’ll see later is actually home to a massive pool of water—the bridge of a Star Destroyer under construction, huts on Luke’s new home of Ahch- To, and rather spectacularly, Chewbacca getting his hair done. Some very slick looking speeders blanketed by the sun. Judging by some of the things we see later on in this reel, these appear to be for the glitzy streets of Canto Bight, a casino world that both Finn (John Boyega) and new character Rose Tico (Kelly Marie Tran) venture to at some point in the movie. A poor camera man gets doused in red soil—meaning that this is presumably Crait, the mineral planet from the first trailer and seemingly the site of a really major battle at some point in the film, judging by some of the character’s we’ll later see filming stuff on this new planet. Rey (Daisy Ridley) pops up from behind a camera, giving us a good look at the hairstyle so secret it somehowbecame a months- long Star Wars rumor. Night on Ahch- To.. It’s not the orange of Poe and his fellow X- Wing pilots, so maybe Finn suits up to use one of those big gunships we saw in the first trailer’s space battle. One of the most mysterious, intriguing shots of the whole reel is this one we see of General Leia (the late, ever- great Carrie Fisher). She’s not on a bridge of a Resistance ship as we’ve seen repeatedly already, but instead looking distraught on the grey, cracked surface of a planet. It's time for the Jedi to end. Disney + Lucasfilm have debuted the first official teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Star Wars devotees who can’t wait for December need look no further. With exclusive access to writer-director Rian Johnson, plus interviews with Mark Hamill, Daisy. Lucasfilm releases a new behind-the-scenes featurette that gives fans another look at Rian Johnson's Star Wars: The Last Jedi. It doesn’t quite look like Crait, and it doesn’t look like what we’ve seen of Ahch- To either, so could it be a new world altogether? Our first look at a pivotal scene that’s presumably from the earliest moments of the film, knowing that it picks up immediately after the end of The Force Awakens: Rey returns the Skywalker family lightsaber to its former owner, Luke (Mark Hamill). Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) goes business formal, keeping the helmet but ditching his pleated robes for a First Order officer’s tunic and a new, totally- trying- to- be- grandpa cloak. ![]() In fact, there’s been a rumor that it might literally be Vader’s cloak, so there’s a possibility that poor Ben has gone full cosplay. The location he’s on looks very Death Star, but it’s likely Supreme Leader Snoke’s grand Star Destroyer—referred to in reports as a Mega Destroyer—which we’ve heard is a pivotal location in the film. Here’s a look at what Kylo’s staring at in the above shot—which definitely looks like a big- ass throne for Snoke to sit in, seemingly confirming this is the Mega Destroyer the First Order’s leader calls home. A reverse look at that big explosion we see Poe (Oscar Isaac) and BB- 8 run to in the first trailer—one that gives us our first really good look at the A- Wings, making their return to the franchise in both original red and Resistance White/Blue flavors. Look at these adorable little space heroes! Sure, it’s an isolated behind- the- scenes shot, but could it imply that all four of our young heroes will be meeting up in the film at some point? We know at the very least a few will, thanks to some later shots in the reel. Our first look at a nasty- looking new weapon for the Stormtroopers (or at least a special version of them, given the new black shoulder pads). Previous reports described this clawed battlestaff as also being electrified, because the big spikey claws didn’t quite look sinister enough as is. This gorgeous animatronic creature looks a little more The Last Guardian than The Last Jedi. The environment seems to match set pictures from filming for Canto Bight, some of the first pictures ever seen from filming— and the gated, horse- esque creature could be from a stable we recently heard of in a set report that Finn and Rose duck into during an elaborate chase sequence that ends up with them riding this creature, allegedly called a Falthier. Look, I don’t have anything to add here other than HOW COOL DOES THIS ICY WOLF LOOK!? A very tiny Casino staff member on Canto Bight prepares his space- gambling table. The design is very reminiscent of Colonel Gascon from Clone Wars, who was from a diminutive race called the Zilkin. Our best look yet at Laura Dern’s mysterious new character—Resistance Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo. She might be sharing a warm greeting with General Organa here, but we’ve heard quite a few reports that she ends up playing a more antagonistic role despite being on the hero’s side. The internet’s boyfriend Poe Dameron takes his seat in a cockpit—one that appears to be a cockpit of one of the Resistance Skimmers we saw gorgeously gliding across Crait’s salted surface in the first trailer. This seemingly innocuous shot of Chewie might come during a jokey sequence from John Boyega mocking director Rian Johnson, but note the environment: he’s on the Resistance ship bridge set we’ve seen Poe, Leia, and Finn all on as well. Given it doesn’t appear that he instantly returns to the Resistance after dropping Rey on Ahch- To, could he have come back with a few more passengers in tow when he eventually does? We saw the very close- up version of this in the trailer itself, but this wider shot gives us a better look at the fact that Rey is seemingly charging into battle on Ahch- To. There’s been a report floating around forever about a major duel on the planet featuring Rey, Luke, Kylo Ren, and the Knights of Ren themselves—could those be the opponents she’s running to meet here? Here’s a really good look at the full extent of the scar Rey gave Kylo Ren during their Force Awakens duel. You’ll note, as we previously reported, Kylo’s scar has moved a couple inches to the side compared to where Rey actually slashed him—a continuity- bending choice by Rian Johnson because he thought the first scar placement looked goofy. Luke stands tall on Ahch- To, but he’s had a change of clothes from his white robes. We got a brief glimpse of this look at Star Wars Celebration a few months ago, but this our best full look at it. This shot was heavily obscured in the initial trailer, but if you didn’t notice, here’s confirmation that Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie) and a bunch of Stormtroopers are responsible for that massive explosion aboard the Resistance ship Poe is on. Note the unfortunate tattered ruins of Black Leader’s X- Wing in the foreground. Speaking of Black Leader, here’s Poe sliding into a trench on what appears to be Crait—could this be earlier in the same sequence we saw at the very start of the reel? Rose, with a different hairstyle, sits on the landing bay of the Millennium Falcon. You can just make out that she’s been crying, so something pretty bad’s probably happened.. After much speculation, we now know that the title for Star Wars: The Last Jedi is referring to multiple individuals. We know nothing about this character other than the fact that he was referred to on set as “DJ”. You can just about glimpse BB- 8 in this shot too. Watch the Very First Official Teaser Trailer for 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi'. Star Wars: Episode VIII The Last Jedi, marketed as Star Wars: The Last Jedi, is the upcoming. Watch the Force-ful Star Wars: Episode VIII — The Last Jedi Trailer. Most viewers think Rey will be the Last Jedi in the upcoming Star Wars movie, but perhaps Finn is a lot more force-sensitive than fans realized. A Resistance Gunner takes her place in the nose turret of one of the bombers we saw in the space battle of the first trailer—but not just any gunner. Rian Johnson has confirmed that this is, in fact, Paige Tico (Veronica Ngo), Rose’s sister. Beloved family member in a precarious combat position? Well, maybe something happens to her and that’s why Rose looked so upset. Adam Driver gets some saber practice in, but look at the weapons of his foes—they’re not lightsabers, but long staves, indicating that this might not be a fight between him, Rey and Luke. Training with his fellow knights of Ren perhaps? A very fancy, almost Batmobile- esque speeder is brought to a stop by the crew. Looks like this is more stuff from Canto Bight. And now it’s Daisy Ridley’s turn for some training—against three opponents, making this at least seem like it’s practice for that rumored skirmish between her and the Knights of Ren on Ahch- To. Say hello to your new favorite reaction gif. This little cutie is apparently called a Porg, a creature native to Ahch- To that Chewbacca encounters, and will no doubt become some seriously sought after merchandise this Christmas. Finn and Rose in a very First Order- looking prison.. We’ve heard details that this is part of the duo infiltrating a Star Destroyer during the climax of the film, perhaps even Snoke’s Mega Destroyer. Also, bizarrely, we’ve heard this sequence will include a cameo from Tom Hardy, dressed up as a Stormtrooper who slaps Finn on the butt as congratulations for his promotion into the officer ranks. Yes, really! Kylo Ren’s mask in various stages of destruction. We knew this was coming thanks to the first trailer, but look at that one in the middle—maybe it’s just a trick of the lights, but it appears that the metallic plating around it is gold rather than silver. Maybe Kylo destroys his mask in a fit of rage, and gets a fancier one built to replace it? A poor Resistance A- Wing pilot gets cooked inside her cockpit. This is presumably part of Phasma’s assault on the hangar we saw earlier, given all the pilots seem to be desperately scrambling to their ships. In fact, it’s not looking good for Resistance pilots all around—here’s one tumbling from their position into what looks like a rack of bombs (is this inside one of the bomber ships?). They don’t have the same helmet on, but maybe this is Paige or one of her co- pilots, and that’s how she dies? Here’s another look at Kylo’s scar—note that here he’s back in his robes from the first film. A grand look at the Canto Bight casino, jam packed with fancy aliens. This doesn’t tell us anything about the movie, but I thought I’d just shatter your heart in the middle of this breakdown anyway. Here’s a Porg getting prepped for its spotlight to cheer you up. Reasons Finn Is Star Wars' Last Jedi. In case there aren’t enough theories about Star Wars: The Last Jedi floating around the internet, here’s another one to add to the list. He has already been established as an important piece in The Resistance and he seems to be intrigued by the concept of The Force. Maybe Rey won’t be the only one that is taught the ways of the Jedi. Whether fans love this theory or hate it, it is a real possibility. However, Jedi or not, Finn is still a great addition to the Star Wars universe. In this article we will be looking at a few hints from Star Wars: The Force Awakens that many viewers may not have noticed, which prove that Finn may indeed be the final Jedi. Here are the 1. 5 Reasons Why Finn IS the Last Jedi. He Was Able To Hold His Own Against Kylo Without Training. The scene in The Force Awakens where Finn takes on Kylo Ren is memorable to most fans, mostly because people are confused as to how Kylo Ren wasn’t able to kill Finn. It has been argued that the scene was simply ridiculous; an untrained man could never hold his own against someone trained with the ways of The Force. However, perhaps instead of possessing a seemingly impossible strength, or just bad writing, Finn is force- sensitive. Yes, Ren was injured, but it’s surprising that Finn survived the fight without being cut down immediately, or at least seriously wounded. The frustration is clear on Ren’s face– Finn should have been overpowered, but something gave him strength. The Force helps the Jedi predict the movements of their opponent, so it’s possible that Finn’s natural link to The Force guided him through their duel. Rey Could Turn To The Dark Side. It’s entirely possible that, after training with Luke, Rey could choose the dark side of The Force. If Rey is a Skywalker, then, much like the Skywalkers before her, she was born with a natural inclination to The Force. Both Anakin and Luke toyed with the idea of succumbing to the Dark Side. Being related to Darth Vader would subject her to the same temptations that Ben Solo faced before becoming Kylo Ren. Even if she is not a Skywalker, the temptation of the Dark Side is there for any Jedi. She could attempt to redeem Kylo Ren and turn him to the Light Side, but ultimately succumb to the Dark Side and join the First Order. This would leave Finn, who is possibly Force- sensitive, to train with Luke and become the Last Jedi in order to defeat the First Order. He wielded a lightsaber. Everyone knows a lightsaber is the weapon of choice for a Jedi. Although a character doesn’t have to be force- sensitive to wield one– as exemplified by Han Solo in the original trilogy– the ability to fight with a lightsaber raises some interesting questions. Finn was able to hold his own against a trained Kylo Ren without any experience fighting with a lightsaber. It’s hard to believe he could even work the weapon without injuring himself. The writers could have easily given his character a blaster, but, instead, they specifically gave him a lightsaber. On top of this, the lightsaber was blue. Finn and Rey are drawn to each other and she’s clearly Force- sensitive. From the moment Rey and Finn meet, the audience can sense their chemistry. Whether their relationship is romantic or platonic, it’s clear that something is bringing them together. Not long after they meet each other on Jakku, they end up running for their lives to escape the planet. They each impress the other with their skills on the Millennium Falcon, and to instantly trust someone that quickly seems to be fate. Obi Wan once said that the force “surrounds us.” It’s not impossible that the powers of The Force could be pushing Finn and Rey together for a reason. The audience is already aware that Rey is Force- sensitive and may be on the path to become a Jedi. Could Finn’s draw to Rey foreshadow his Force abilities as well? Rey Rejected The Idea of Being a Jedi Multiple Times. In The Force Awakens, Rey makes it clear that she isn’t interested in becoming a Jedi. She has always believe them to be a myth, and, upon learning they exist, she is overwhelmed. She is unsettled by the vision she has when she touches Luke’s lightsaber, and refuses to take it from Maz. When she eventually takes the lightsaber to find Luke, it may be interpreted as Rey asking to be trained in the Jedi arts. However, it could also be a cry for help, where she’s asking him to take the burden of becoming a Jedi away from her. When she refuses to wield the lightsaber and accept her training, it falls to Finn. He’s already wielded it in battle and strongly believes the First Order must be defeated. Luke could then find him and train him to be the Last Jedi. He Has A Sense For Good and Justice. Finn has a natural instinct for doing what’s right, despite being raised as a Stormtrooper. His actions are all due to the fact that he has a strong moral compass and believes he must do the “right” thing. Finn even exclaims this remark to Poe. He almost possesses a childlike optimism when facing the world. Everything has to be just and fair. He has an instinctual moral compass that points him to what’s just and right. While some viewers insist he’s running scared the whole film– and he very well could be– something is pointing him in a certain direction. All of his choices end up making him a hero, which means that The Force could be influencing his actions, and one day he could learn to work with this influence and use it to train as a Jedi. Finn Is Simply Too Lucky, The Force Must Be On His Side. The fact that Finn escapes so much danger throughout the film with barely a scratch seems a bit too good to be true. Because he was a Stormtrooper, he’s had little real world experience and little to no free will. For someone who is suddenly thrust into the world on his own, he sure is able to handle a lot. He was able to escape the First Order, attack enemy ships while flying with Poe, help Rey escape from Jakku on the Millennium Falcon, and fight with a lightsaber without training. The list goes on and on. In many of these situations it is probable that an average person would never make it out alive, so it cannot be mere a coincidence. The Force is guiding Finn on his journey throughout The Force Awakens. Rey Becomes a Jedi and Trains Finn, But Then Dies. From what we’ve seen from the official teaser trailer for The Last Jedi, it is very likely that Luke will inevitably train Rey in the ways of The Force. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean that she is the last Jedi ever. After becoming a Jedi, she could become Finn’s mentor and train him. This would mean that he would become another Jedi. Much like Obi Wan and Darth Vader in Star Wars: A New Hope, Rey could face off with Kylo Ren and lose. Her death would leave Finn alone as the Last Jedi. Alternatively, rather than being taught by Rey before her sudden death, Finn could also be a witness to her death, which spurs him to ask Luke to train him in order to gain revenge and defeat Kylo and the First Order. He’s Naturally Heroic and Brave. Much like Finn’s natural moral compass, he’s also instinctively heroic and brave. On the surface, he may look scared throughout the film, but his fear doesn’t stop him from continuing to fight. He wants to protect Rey (even if she’s fully capable on her own) because he knows that she is also good and kind. He’s often torn between his own self- interest (or survival instinct to stay live) and his ability to be a hero, but he always chooses to save the day. This goes hand- in- hand with his sense of good and justice. He fights for what he believes to be the right thing, even if it scares him. Finn knew he coudn’t win against Kylo Ren, but it didn’t keep him from trying. The Force could be a part of the strength that makes him hold his ground and fight, rather than flee. He Allied With the Light Side. Technically there are no official Jedi on the Light Side fighting the First Order in The Force Awakens, but Rey is clearly headed in this direction. As soon as Finn meets her, he immediately presents himself as an ally. It’s already been established that Finn hates the First Order. Rey uses The Force to battle Kylo Ren, but, in a way, so does Finn when he fights him with a blue lightsaber. The two of them are able to hold their own by allying with the Light Side against the Dark Side. Maz is able to sense the Light Side in Rey, and she also appears to see something special in Finn. Who’s to say that she isn’t sensing that he’s Force- sensitive as well? If she is, then it’s obvious that she saw the light in him, because she wasn’t afraid. Instead she wanted to help the two characters, which is a strong clue that they are both on The Light side. Kylo Ren Sensed The Force in him. Finn refuses to fire his blaster as the First Order attacks the village. During the attack, Kylo Ren stares down Finn as if he knows something is off– perhaps sensing Finn’s connection to the Force. Why else would Kylo Ren stop in the middle of his conquest to focus on a single Stormtrooper? It could have been a hint that Finn is going to become a Jedi in the future. However, Kylo perhaps doesn’t do anything to Finn because he hopes that he won’t become a problem. But, reacting to his force- sensitivity could trigger Finn’s ability to use it. Or, maybe it’s a reminder of the struggle Ren has within himself. He’s torn between the Light Side and the Dark Side. Finn was originally a Stormtrooper allied with The First Order, and his potential ties to the Force could cause Kylo to question this. Either way, this scene presented strong evidence that Finn carries a connection to the Force. He Turned Against The Stormtroopers Despite Being One. Finn rejects the actions of the First Order regardless of the fact that was conditioned to become a Stormtrooper his entire life. Something– perhaps The Force– prompted him to realize that the beliefs that they had taught him were wrong. He’s seemingly the only Stormtrooper to actively reject The First Order and escape.
